In order to provide what they see as economic viability, Polaris Industries, parent company of Victory Motorcycles, is shutting down a Wisconsin plant and moving its production line to Iowa.
The Osceola, Wisconsin, plant was noted for its production of the Freedom V-twin engine. However, with the restructuring of manufacturing, Polaris has decided to move those operations to Spirit Lake, Iowa, and enhance the facilities there. In the United States, the Spirit Lake and Roseau, Minnesota, plants are projected to see enhancements and higher production responsibilities.
Announced in the same press release, Polaris made it known that they intend on opening a plant in Mexico. The new facility there, they claimed, would decrease the overall cost of production for some of their lesser manufacturing needs, but would not directly affect the Victory Motorcycles line. The company was specific in saying that the production of Victory Motorcycles would remain American.
The company has offered workers due to lose their jobs severance packages, as well as allowing these laborers to work up until the transition between plant owners is complete.

The Iowa Department of Transportation is asking motorcyclists to increase awareness of safety precautions by wearing bright colors when they ride.
In 2009 alone, Iowa suffered 49 motorcycle-related fatalities. Many drivers claim, in an accident with a motorcycle, that they simply failed to see the motorcycle. With these complaints being frequent, Iowa Department of Transportation representatives are pushing for motorcyclists to make the road safer for themselves.
Instead of wearing dark browns or black, as is considered popular, experts are urging riders to wear bright colors like red, yellow, orange, or brighter shades of green. They argue, for the sake of increasing visibility, that a helmet or vest that is brightly colored is sufficient. The Department of Transportation also said that motorcyclists should keep their highlights on at all times.

The U.S. saw a significant drop in motorcycle fatalities in 2009, but Iowa’s rates didn’t decline such a startling amount. National numbers went down about 10 percent, but the numbers for Iowa only fell about 7 percent, the Iowa Department of Transportation reported.
More than 50 percent of motorcycle crashes are caused by loss of control and involve no other vehicle. The Governors Highway Safety Association encourages motorcyclists to drive safely and be aware of their surroundings. The association also encourages bikers to wear helmets while riding. None of the people who have died in motorcycle accidents in Iowa to date this year were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
